Kefalonia - All shades of blue

We got to Kefalonia on summer 22. We wanted to try and live a life on a Greek island, to check if it suits us for a long-term living place. We lived and worked in a vineyard, and for two months we travelled all around the island. There is no doubt that we will come back some day, or this summer, maybe every summer.

GETTING AROUND KEFALONIA

To experience Kefalonia in the best and most comfortable way, you need a car or a scooter.

our natural choice will always be a scooter - summer breeze in your hair, sun on your skin, easy to drive through the crowded city and never having to look for a parking place.

you can rent a vehicle in the rental agencies at the airport or on the island. If you're visiting the island in high season, I recommend renting in advance.

THINGS TO DO IN KEFALONIA

Agios Thomas beach

A small sandy beach, by its side, you will find a rocky beach and a cool beach bar offering good music, food and drinks. Our recommendation is to come with a sun umbrella and some chairs, find a place to chill on the rocks and spend the day jumping and snorkelling in the countless amazing shades of blue water.

Pessada beach

Just before you get to passada port, you will turn right into a small dead end street, in the end of it you will find this stairway lead to the beach.to your left you will see a beautiful turquoise water beach, but our favorite beach is actually on the right side of the bay, when getting to the beach turn right and cross the rocky part, then you will see this small cute beach, with the clearest water and chilled atmosphere.

Assos and fiskardo

In the 50s there was a strong earthquake that destroyed almost all the buildings on the island, so most of the architecture around Kefalonia is pretty new. The only villages that remain standing are Asos and Fiskerado, and they are unique and picturesque. As you can expect,the road to get to these villages is an experience by itself, amazing views everywhere. You can stop at the many viewpoints around the road and even go down for a swim on the beaches on the way.

Acorn antisamos

This beach bar is located on antiamos beautiful beach, 10 minutes drive from the village Sami,where you can enjoy free sunbeds, food, drinks, music and even a massage hut.

Vinaries

On the beach of Argostoli, under the trees with the sea and mountain view, Vinaries serves fresh fish and seafood, good local wines and a warm service. This was our a go to restaurant for shabbat dinner when we felt we wanted to eat somewhere special but homie.

To patriko

At the end of Argostoli marine road you will find this tavern, tasty traditional bites, a variety of ouzo and, most of all, a happy atmosphere for a fun night in town.

Karnagio

on the village Sami, right on the beach.

a traditional tavern, serving fresh fish and local dishes.

if you are a greek Cuisine love (which I hope you are) you wouldn't be disappointed from this one.

WHERE TO STAY IN KEFALONIA

Stella Vineyard

Maybe I'm not objective on this matter, as we lived and worked there for the two months on our stay on the island, but hear me out about this magical place.

I will start with some background. 24 years ago, Leftheris came back to Kefalonia, where he was born and raised. After living in Canada for a few years, he bought a Virgil land on a cliff and started grooming it with his wife Collette.they planted trees and grapes for wine making, made stairs on the edge of the cliff to make the deserted beach approachable and built a home for his family and guests to enjoy the piece of heaven.Today stella vineyard is a family business that includes wine making, and 7 holiday homes.during the summer they harvested the grapes, the guests who come every year (some of them for 10 years straight) helps and harvest with the family, this is just an example for the uniqueness of this place.
